Alton, Mo. – On Thursday, September 21, the Alton Chamber of Commerce met to finalize details of the upcoming Walnut Festival. Thirteen members showed up to volunteer their services and determine what needs to be accomplished before the October 7 Walnut Festival date.
Walnut Festival
The 38th Annual Black Gold Walnut Festival is on Saturday, October 7. There will be an opening ceremony from the VFW . This is at 9:00 a.m. During the morning, they will be judging the contests. For baking, one can enter cakes and pies or cookies and breads. One can enter as often as he wants.
Each entry has to have black walnuts in the ingredients. They also have a walnut woodworking contest.
There is no entry fee. However, winners do receive cash prizes. Late morning is the pumpkin carving contest. Ninety pumpkins are provided for children to carve.
They do plan on having a singing idol contest. Also, the best booth will receive a $100 prize. Live music will be throughout the day. One can still purchase a Walnut Festival shirt online here and pick up the shirt at the chamber booth on Saturday.
Sew Blessed Piecemakers will raffle off the beautiful quilt at the festival. you can still buy a ticket. You can go here to find out more about where the quilt is or where to purchase tickets.
Pocket Park
The chamber is still discussing the pocket park located next to the library. At the Walnut Festival, they will have a survey to get the public’s opinion.
Trunk Or Treat
Last year’s Trunk or Treat was a huge success. They plan on doing another one this year. It will be on the square on Halloween, October 31. Vendors with candy must register beforehand—more information as the date approaches.
The chamber has many plans in the upcoming days. They are working to make Alton approachable, with activities for all ages.
