Alton, Mo. – Each year, Missouri and Arkansas allow a weekend of free fishing in public lakes and rivers. This is open to state residents as well as visitors of any age. Here are the details to help you get out and enjoy the sunshine while trying your fishing tactics.
When Is This?
Missouri’s free fishing weekend runs from June 8, 2024, through June 9, 2024. Arkansas allows a little extra time to experience free fishing. It begins on Friday, June 7, 2024, at noon and continues until midnight on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
Who Can Fish?
Anyone may fish the public waters for free. You can be a citizen of the state or a visitor. Any age can take advantage of this opportunity.
License?
During this weekend, anyone may fish state waters without an MDC fishing permit, trout permit, and prescribed area daily tag. Remember that user fees and permits may still be required at county, city, or private fishing areas. Standard regulations, such as size and daily limits, still apply, too.
Where Is This?
This happens statewide, both in Missouri and Arkansas. However, you may not fish on private property unless you have permission.
Some conservation areas rent out fishing equipment for those wanting to learn the sport. Call ahead to avoid the many people out all weekend. The weather should be great, and eating fish is healthy. What more reason do you need to get out and fish?
