The movie Jesus Revolution has hit the big screen around the United States, including Glass Sword Theatre in West Plains, Missouri. The movie portrays the “Jesus Revolution” that happened across the U.S. in the late 1900s.
The Revival
In the late 1960s and 1970s, a revival swept over the United States, starting in California. The revival was centered on the hippies during the time but didn’t exclude other people. The Jesus Revolution was also called the Jesus Movement. The Jesus Movement was further spread when street-preacher Lonnie Frisbee and Calvary Chapel pastor Chuck Smith joined together and invited the hippies to the church. [1] The building soon became too small, so meetings were held in big tents.
The Movie
The movie Jesus Revolution, produced by the creators of I Can Only Imagine, portrays Greg Laurie, who is currently the pastor of Harvest Church, as a young man searching for all the right things in all the wrong places during the Jesus Movement. When he meets Lonnie Frisbee, Laurie gives his life over to God. The movie goes on to show how Frisbee and Pastor Chuck Smith opens Smith’s church doors to the hippies. [2]
