This weekend marks the opening weekend of youth deer hunting across the state. Deer hunting with firearms for youth is open Saturday, October 31, 2020, through Sunday, November 1, 2020.
Who Is A Youth?
In order to be eligible for the youth hunt, one must be at least 6 years old and no older than 15 on the opening day of the early youth hunting season. [1]
When Is The Season Open?
Youth firearm season is open Saturday, October 31, 2020, through Sunday, November 1, 2020. Just like another season, youth firearm season opens one-half hour before sunrise and ends one-half hour after sunset. The second youth season is following Thanksgiving: Friday, November 27, 2020, through Sunday, November 29, 2020.
What Is Allowed?
A valid permit is necessary to hunt. This permit can be a firearms any-deer permit or a firearms antlerless permit. During the youth hunting season, the antler-point restrictions do not apply.
Besides having a permit, there are other considerations. Only one deer may be taken during the early youth deer season. Only one antlered deer may be taken throughout the entire firearms season, youth or everyone. One may take up to two antlered deer combined in the archery and firearm seasons. Each county limits the number of antlerless permits you can fill. In Oregon County, hunters may fill two firearm antlerless deer hunting permits. And resident landowners with at least 75 acres may harvest additional antlerless deer using their landowner permit.
