The first Southern Missouri Folklore Festival will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022. Stories will be shared by people of all ages from southern Missouri. If you want the opportunity to share a story, you must submit it by Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
Folklore Festival
The Southern Missouri Folklore Festival will be held at the West Plains Civic Center. It is presented by the Missouri State University-West Plains University/Community Programs Department.
Story Age Brackets
There are five different age brackets for you to enter. [1] One winner will be chosen from each bracket. All the stories should be in 12-point font and be double-spaced.
- Grades 4-6: it should be a 1-2 page story
- Grades 7-9: the story should be 2-4 pages
- Grades 10-12: it should be 3-6 pages long
- College students: the story should be 4-9 pages long
- Community members: it should be a 4-8 page story
Story Topics
There are also different topics you can choose from for your story. [2]
- Family history
- Family biography
- Childhood memory
- Personal growth story
- Local historical event
- Local historical figure biography
- Regional legend

Stories should be submitted in a form of a google document. You can submit it here. All stories must be submitted by March 1, 2022.
