Thayer, Mo. – On Thursday, July 4, 2024, Thayer held its Independence Day Celebration. While fireworks were the main item on the list, the schoolyard had much to see and do for all ages. Whole families, from grandparents to babies, came out to celebrate our country’s birthday.
Skydivers
Becoming an annual hit, four skydivers took to the sky between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm. They trailed patriotic streamers and a flag as they floated into the stadium.
Booths
On the one side of the field, booths lined up, teasing passers-by with their goods. While hot dishes did sell, the most extended lines were for fresh lemonade and ice slushies. Harps passed out free cold watermelon, which they ran out of quickly. Politicians and Air Evac made up some of the booths, along with vendors selling clothing and aprons. Live music filled the ears as you walked around.
Children’s Area
There was also an area for young children. A bounce house and train rides were offered for a low price.
Show
Once it got dark, the lights went off, and the fireworks show started. Big, beautiful bursts of light filled the sky, and loud booms echoed across the hills. Then, the grand finale came with even bigger displays.

Afterward, Thayer’s finest police helped alleviate traffic jams by directing traffic.
