More than 28,000 pounds of ground beef is being recalled due to E. coli contamination. If you are traveling to the northwest, major grocery chains are recalling the beef in huge numbers.

Who Does This Effect?

Kroger, Walmart, Albertsons, and WinCo foods are all recalling the ground beef. Customers who purchased ground beef should look for the establishment number ‘EST.965’ inside the USDA mark of inspection. It could also be printed next to the time stamp and use or freeze by date. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service posted the announcement last week. The USDA is urging anyone who purchased beef from these stores to check the numbers, even if it’s in the freezer. These warnings apply to consumers in Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Now What?

The USDA is urging purchasers to discard the meat immediately. Buyers may also return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. Additional information can be gained by calling this number 503-656-6168. A list of the sizes and packagings of meat and where they were sold can be found here.

E. Coli

E. coli symptoms include stomach cramps, dehydration, vomiting, even a mild fever. Some cases may even be life threatening, especially to young children. If you know you purchased the ground beef, the USDA is asking persons not to eat it.
