August 10, 2021 was the actual date of Missouri’s bicentennial. However, the planning for the commemoration began much earlier. Back in February, AltonMo.com published an article informing readers about the new stamp [1] the postal service is printing to commemorate Missouri’s bicentennial. Each post office in the state has these stamps and they went on sale yesterday- the state’s birthday!
What’s On The Stamp?
The stamp has a photograph of Bolinger Mill State Historic site. This is a mill that was originally built in 1800. Charles Gurche photographed the mill while Greg Breeding designed the stamp for the postal service.
Cost?
The famous Missouri bicentennial stamp is a first class stamp, worth $.55. It is a forever stamp and can mail any first class envelope.
Where To Buy
These stamps- you’ll want more than one- is available at any Missouri post office. Right here is Alton, Carrie, the postmaster has a supply ready for purchase. The address is 198 Main Street in Alton. This is next to the Alton Senior Center and across the street from the Community Worship Center.
