Winter weather often brings dryness. Even if it rains outdoors, the inside climate is quite dry. Homes with wood burning fireplaces add to the dryness. For hands, we apply lotions. What about the eyes? We can’t possibly apply lotion to the eyes. Well, here are suggestions to keep your eyes lubricated.
Humidifier
Try using a humidifier. That adds moisture to the air. Boiling soups increases moistness in the air. Adding a diffuser to one or more rooms in the house helps, especially if the unit is in the bedroom. As you sleep, your eyes will get a soft bath to reset for the following day.
Hydration
Take care of yourself by drinking. water needs to be taken throughout the day, even when you are not thirsty. It you find yourself out in dryer elements, you may need to raise your liquid intake to balance out.
Eating
Eating certain foods can help your eyes. Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in fish oils, may help protect your eyes [1]. Eating bright colored fruits and vegetables can also help the eyes. Think of orange carrots and sweet potatoes, sweet peppers, and kale are all loaded with vitamin A which strengthens the eyes.
Sunglasses
It may seem odd to wear sunglasses in the winter, but it does benefit your seeing ability. Winds dry the eyes. Sunlight on snow can become blinding.
We are each given two eyes. These can get injured, damaged. They can easily deteriorate. But with a little thought and care, their lifespan can be much longer.
