On Monday, January 20, 2025, Donald Trump will sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. Several events are lined up for the weekend as well as the day of.
Sunday
Sunday will see Trump at Arlington Cemetery to lay a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Later in the day, he will hold a MAGA rally, where singers will perform and important guests will speak. In the evening, Trump will attend a candlelight dinner.
Monday
Monday is inauguration day. Before the swearing-in ceremonies, the president-elect will attend a church service, as well as have a White House Tea with President Biden and his wife.
Ceremonies
The next event on the agenda is the swearing-in ceremonies. The inauguration ceremony was to be held outside but due to the cold temperatures, the ceremony has been moved inside. This makes it the first time the ceremony has been inside since 1985 when Ronald Reagan had it moved. [1]
Before the actual swearing in at noon Eastern Time, there will be musical and song preludes, a call to order, and an invocation. After those, JD Vance will be sworn in as vice-president with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh administering the oath of office. Another song will follow then Donald Trump will be sworn in as President with Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administering the oath. [2]
Important world leaders have been invited to attend the inauguration including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Argentina’s Javier Milei, El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele, and former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. [3]
Other Events
After President Trump’s inaugural address, a formal farewell for Biden and his wife will be held. The signing room ceremony, inaugural luncheon, pass in review (reviewing military troops), Presidential parade, and oval office ceremony will take place during the afternoon. [4]
Balls
Three balls are scheduled to take place in the evening: the Commander in Chief Ball, the Liberty Ball and the Starlight Ball. [5]
Tuesday
To close out all the inauguration ceremony festivities, on Tuesday, there will be a National Prayer Service.
