Do you use mascara? Do you finish the container and wonder what to do with this nifty brush- such a waste to simply toss it. Wands for Wildlife has found a use for these delicate wands, and they are taking donations.
Who Is Collecting?
Wands For Wildlife is collecting mascara wands. Their goal is to educate the world on plastics’ potential for use and reuse and to support organizations that lead wildlife rehabilitation efforts [1]. Although not working directly with animals, they work closely with organizations that do.
The Beginnings
This nonprofit organization began on Facebook in 2017. At that time, they asked users to donate their used mascara wands for wildlife rehabilitation. It became a viral sensation. Wands for Wildlife was featured on CNN, Good Housekeeping, and People Magazine.
Individuals or groups who donate are called ‘wanders’.
Wands Are Used For What?
These mascara wands are perfect for grooming, cleaning, and treating the fur and feathers of wildlife. These delicate wands gently check injured animals because the bristles are soft.
Help?
Over 300,000 wands have been donated. If you are interested in donating, you can go to their website here. You can also check with local wildlife facilities and zoos to see if they could use any.
