Do you make New Year’s resolutions? How about predictions? What do you think the year will bring? Or what about five or ten years down the road? Where do you see the future? One hundred years ago, some people predicted what the future 100 years would hold. Some are crazy. Some are more true than we would like to admit.
Age
Because of scientific advances, people will live to be 150 years old! New medicines will also eliminate the ailments and limitations of old age.
Government
Several sources cited different governments. One suggested no actual government, just three masses of differing peoples. Another suggested one government with one language, similar to pre-Babel times.
It was predicted that in 2025, the first woman President would be elected.
Population
Some suggested that the U.S. population would reach 200 million by 2025. It’s now close to 345 million. There was also a suggestion that there would be colossal food shortages and that people would look elsewhere for food. However, poverty would be eliminated.
Large Cities
Some thought New York City would grow to house so many people it would have 3-4 layer roads to bring them in for work. It would host skyscrapers over 100 stories tall.
Others hypothesized that San Fransisco would be the largest city, trading with those overseas.
Inventions
How about this idea? People would hold a pocket-sized apparatus for communicating to see and hear each other without being in the same room—rather like a cell phone? Books would be printed on thin nickel leaves, so light and thin that a single volume would contain 30,000 pages. We would use machines for almost everything, making life simpler.
While discussing the New Year, here is a trivia thought: 3,000 pounds of hand-thrown confetti is released in Times Square each year after New York City’s New Year’s Eve ball drop.
