As in a previous year,  President Biden issued a Thanksgiving proclamation altogether avoiding any mention of God. While referring to our founding fathers and even Lincoln, Biden did not refer to the Almighty, who grants all good things.

Founding Fathers

Any elementary student knows about the pilgrims celebrating Thanksgiving with native Americans, offering gratitude to the Almighty for his abundance of goodness upon them.

Civil War

In his 1863 presidential proclamation instituting Thanksgiving as a national holiday, President Lincoln urged his fellow Americans to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November “as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” Lincoln warned that if anyone forgets to thank Almighty God for these gifts, these bounties

are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come [1].

President Hayes

While Hayes was not as well-remembered as Lincoln, he remarked,

Withdrawing themselves from secular cares and labors, the people of the United States do meet together on that day in their respective places of worship, there to give thanks and praise to Almighty God for His mercies and to devoutly beseech their continuance [2].

Modern Times

While Biden professes to be a Catholic, he did not mention God, Providence, or the Almighty in his recent proclamation. Thus far, only Presidents Obama and Biden have left God out of Thanksgiving.
