The country’s general elections are less than a month away. We know we will vote for people, but is anything else on the ballot? Here are some things to consider before you head into the voting booth.
People
Representatives serve only two years. Thus, every state is reelecting its representatives. This is divided by area. We currently have representative Smith. He does have two opponents for his office.
Senator Blunt is retiring this year. After claiming to be a Republican, but not voting conservatively as some would want him to, he is leaving office. To take his place, one can choose our attorney general Schmitt, or Valentine, Dine, or Venable.
We vote for state auditor. Right now we have Fitzpatrick who is running for reelection. He is running against Green and Hartwig, jr.
Judges
We will vote for judge, commissioner, county clerk, court clerk, recorder, county treasurer, and prosecuting attorney. Each of these has only one person running for the position.
We will cast our ballot on if three judges shall remain in office: Judge Fischer, Judge Burrell, and Judge Ransom.
A well-educated citizen is important to the direction our country, and ultimately our state goes. Research the individuals. It is permissable to not vote along party lines. AltonMo.com will have additional information on the propositions in a separate article.
