November 8, 2022, is the General Election Day across the United States. Here in Missouri, we are voting for a number of people as already discussed. However, we are also casting our ballots on four propositions to the Constitution.
Prop 1
This amendment allows the general assembly to override current constitutional restrictions.
Prop 3
This asks to remove prohibitions on marijuana. It claims this will increase revenue. One does need to look at other states that have already legalized marijuana to see how terrific their revenues are. Or have more funds been allocated to police forces to train their men in dealing with those using now-controlled substances?
Prop 4
This asks to increase the minimum funding for the police force.
Proposition 5
This asks for the Missouri National Guard, which is currently under the Missouri Department of Public Safety, to become its own department.
One More
Lastly, Secretary of State John Ashcroft asks for there to be a convention to revise and amend the Constitution.
Each of these requires thought. Which direction do we want our state to head? The citizens of Missouri have been conservative and constitutional. Will the votes uphold that idea? We will find out after the elections.
