A poll released on October 24 announced that Americans overwhelmingly want voter ID. A whopping 84% of people wish for voter photo identification. These poll results go across party lines.
In the latest poll, 83 percent of respondents said they support requiring proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote for the first time.
Past Polling
The poll, released on Oct. 24, found that 84 percent of American adults support voter ID measures. This is a marked increase from the 80 percent who supported the measure preceding the 2016 election and the 79 percent who supported it during the 2022 midterm elections.
Party Lines
Republicans favored the measures by a near-unanimous margin. 98% of Republicans favor photo identification and 96% support proof of citizenship for voters. Additionally, eight in 10 registered Independents, 84%, support both measures. Surprisingly, the vast majority of Democrats also say they would support laws “requiring all voters to provide photo identification at their voting place in order to vote” (67%) and limiting elections to those who can provide reliable proof of their U.S. citizenship (66%). Laws stating that voters must show photo identification are favored by 86% of white voters and 80% of minority voters
Citizenship
Limiting the freedom to vote to those who can prove their U.S. citizenship is backed by more than three-quarters (76%) of non-white voters and 87% of white, non-Hispanic voters. This came to a head with the Biden-Harris administration allowing so many illegal persons to enter our country. Citizens are tired of the crime and high taxes to pay for their welfare. Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) has led state efforts to remove non-citizens from the voting rolls. However, the Biden-Harris administration’s Justice Department has sued to prevent states from removing non-citizens from the voting rolls. Enormous numbers of illegal border crossings have cast the issue of illegal immigration into the top three issues on voters’ minds ahead of the 2024 election.
With this election divided along party lines on almost every issue, it is good to see bipartisanship on these matters.
