Tim Baker Survey Answers

1)Are you aware that many schoolchildren cannot read or write cursive? What would you do to solve this problem?

yes, I am very much aware of the situation with our schools.  We need to get back to the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

2) Do you believe that self-defense is a right?  Why?  Should there be any limitations?

yes, individuals have the right to defend themselves. Each situation is different in its limitations.

3). In light of the Bill of Rights, how do you propose supporting our freedoms and rights that are enumerated?

The only role of government is to protect your rights, liberties, and property.

4) As illegal persons come to the state of Missouri, do you see their presence as a help or a hindrance?  What will they do to our economy?

I see it as a hindrance and a slap in the face for everyone that came in the right way. They are a huge financial burden on our state and country.

5) What is the biggest problem facing Missourians / Americans?

Government being in our way. We are a republic, and our government is to govern, not dictate.

6) The traditional family consists of a father, mother, and children.  Is this type of family good for our culture?

yes it’s one of the basic foundations of our heritage from Biblical times.

7) What are the most pressing needs for infrastructure or capital projects in the state?

The Buy Missouri program is under the Lt Governor. I want to work with rural communities and start getting the vacant buildings
back to being productive pieces of property in your community. Maintaining and improving our roads system is a critical point in this as well.

8) How would you protect Oregon County from big government interference? Tax manipulation?

By working with local leaders and community members.  Communities know their local needs better than the government ever will.

9) What laws would you like to see passed or repealed in your term?

Initiative petition should have been passed years ago. Rural communities are losing their voices. I would also like to see single-subject bills. No more omnibus bills.  Review our laws every 2-3 years will help stay on top of outdated or contradicting laws.

10) What is your greatest accomplishment that you want voters to know about?

First my family! Second, the money I have saved as the Franklin County Clerk by ripping the band-aid off of wasteful spending. Third the book I help to create to teach our 3rd & 4th grade students of Franklin County about county government and civics.

11) Can you give a short bio on why you chose to run for office?

I have four daughters and one grandson. I want them to have the same opportunity and Missouri I know and love. Also, with my experience in business, county government and local involvement; I feel like I’ve been preparing for this position
my whole life.
