Alton, Mo. – The 2022 Primary Elections are coming up on August 2nd. That is when voters vote for who they want to go to the general elections in the individual parties. In the general election in November, all the voters vote for the overall winner of all the parties. One of the local offices being voted on is the Oregon County Commissioner. Three Republican candidates are running: David Stubblefield (presiding commissioner), Henry Smith, and Terry Cline.

Jobs for Youth

One of the questions asked him was, “What is your number one goal you want to accomplish as commissioner?” Henry Smith said that he wanted to get jobs for the youth, particularly high school graduates. He wants to offer them a chance to stay at Alton after they graduate.

Jobs for our youth. When they get out of high school, they’ll have an option to stay here or leave. But there will be an option.

Government

Talking about government overreach, Smith said that it should start at the state level but “everyone’s got to be together on that.”

Farming

Farming is Henry Smith’s living. He said that it helps him in budgeting and looking ahead.

Just… budgeting for things and… looking ahead… making sure everything’s taken care of.

Biography

Having lived in Oregon County for sixteen and a half years, Smith knows the general layout of the county and the weather and the residents.

Honesty Counts

One of the most important qualities Smith thinks a person should have is honesty. An honest man in office is what everyone wants and needs.
