In a March 25, 220 press release, Governor Parson emphasized the importance of food and agriculture to Missouri’s covid-19 response efforts. He emphasized that the food and agriculture industry in Missouri remains strong.

Meeting Demands

Governor Parson said,” Missouri food supply is as strong as the men and women who drive our trucks and tractors.” [1]. Farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses are always critical pieces of our society. Additionally, Governor Parson wants every worker and employer in these industries to realize that their work has never been more important than right now. Agriculture plays a vital role in taking care of a person’s basic needs, even during a public health emergency.

Who Is Involved

Farmers, ranchers, agriculture businesses, and grocery stores are encouraged to keep going in their essential business functions. Plus, last week Governor Parson signed executive order 20-04. This extends the hours commercial drivers can operate on Missouri’s roadways, delivering essential supplies. The Governor also worked with MODOT (Missouri Department Of Transportation) to allow heavier than usual truckloads of supplies and equipment on Missouri highways. This does include shipments of livestock and poultry.
