Many people were afraid at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Because of an airborne virus touted as highly contagious and deadly, they allowed themselves to follow the CDC’s mandates. The CDC is the Center for Disease Control; they are the experts. The CDC did mandate mask-wearing for the protection of others. They have since updated their website to say the masking is only recommended.
Control
While governmental officials grabbed power by telling the ordinary people how to dress (masking) and where to go (six-foot spacing), there wasn’t much authenticity in what they said. Admittedly, some may have acted out of ignorance and at the behest of medical authorities. Others took the rule of the law far overboard.
Common Sense
Common sense seemed to die. Why would you put a mask on a child, hindering his speech and development? Why would you mask one who has inferior health? Why would you mask over one sneezing and coughing- so they rebreathe the bad germs? Why keep people indoors and not let fresh air into their existence?
Current Times
We are now coming into cooler weather, and some authorities are already calling for masks on everyone while limiting contacts. Did this work before? No. There is no evidence that mask-wearing stopped or even slowed the spread of the virus. While many reports state that countries with no restrictions (Sweden [1]) for masking or social distancing recovered quickly with no considerable effect on their death rates, European countries maintain that lockdowns were correct.
Political Adversaries
Outspoken politicians quickly issued their statements on masking and lockdowns:
Senator Schmitt announced on X,
No mask mandates. No lockdowns. No government overreach. Never again [2].
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) wrote on X
Americans have had enough COVID hysteria. We will not comply [3]!
President Trump stated in a video,
We will not shut down our schools. We will not accept your lockdowns. We will not abide by your mask mandates and we will not tolerate your vaccine mandates [4].
Dr. Birx, who led the government response in 2020, said,
We don’t need to mandate. We need to actually empower people with the information that they need for themselves and their families because every family is different [5].
Although mainstream news sources are touting an uptick in COVID hospitalizations since Labor Day, many Americans no longer believe the media after all the lies and disproportionate news it reports on. They also do not believe this virus is overwhelmingly dangerous. Senator Vance from Ohio has submitted a bill forbidding mask mandates on public transportation or in schools, noting their failure to contain most viruses.
