Not many U.S. presidents have been impeached, but Democrats are hoping that President Trump will be added to that short list. Unfortunately, however, many dreams came crashing down when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was quoted saying that she was “not for impeachment.”

Not for Impeachment

On Monday, March 11th, House Speaker Pelosi participated in an exclusive interview with the Washington Post’s Joe Heim. [1] Questioned about her party wanting to impeach President Trump, Pelosi stated that she was not for impeachment. Not only is Trump “just not worth it.” [2] but Pelosi has said before that “Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country.” [3]

Which is why impeachment is out of the question for Pelosi. “I’m not for impeachment,” Pelosi said. “This is news. I’m going to give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before.”

Earlier this year, Pelosi sat down for an interview with NBC News. Anchor Savannah Guthrie asked Pelosi about impeaching the President then as well. “We have to wait and see what happens with the Mueller report,” Pelosi said, referring to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. “We shouldn’t be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn’t avoid impeachment for a political reason. So we’ll just have to see how it comes,” Pelosi responded.

The Mueller investigation is still ongoing, however.

Appreciative of the Opposition

On Wednesday, Trump said that he “greatly” appreciated Pelosi standing against the idea of impeachment. Shortly after the new year began Trump announced that the House Speaker had told him she wasn’t trying to impeach him. “I said: ‘Why don’t you use this for impeachment?'” Trump said he had asked Pelosi.

“And Nancy said we’re not looking to impeach you. I said that’s good, Nancy. That’s good. But you know what? You don’t impeach people when they’re doing a good job, and you don’t impeach people where there was no collusion, ’cause there was no collusion.” [4]

Currently, the Democrats are waiting for the Mueller investigation to be wrapped up claiming that they need all of the facts.
