Our state representative in Washington, DC, is Jason Smith. He represents Missouri district 8. This past week he helped pass crucial legislation regarding U.S. policies [1]. Here is what he voted on and how the bill passed or did not pass.

H.R. 1

This is named The Lower Energy Costs Act. Congressman Smith coauthored. It takes important steps to combat Washington Democrats’ radical energy agenda and provides the foundation to make America energy independent again. Representative Smith voted yes. It passed.

H.R. 1154

This bill creates new mandatory sanctions on those involved in forced organ trafficking. It would also update the State Department’s annual human rights reports to include information regarding forced organ trafficking in such countries, and it would allow the State Department to refuse to issue a passport to individuals convicted of forced organ trafficking. Representative Smith voted yes. It passed.

H.R. 107

This bill makes it U.S. policy to oppose labeling the People’s Republic of China (PRC) a developing country in international organizations of which both the U.S. and the PRC are a party. It also requires the State Department to push within international organizations to prevent the PRC from being labeled a developing country. Representative Smith voted yes. Bill passed.
