While the 2024 Olympics in Paris may not have begun by glorifying God, the French Bible Society is undeterred. They are passing out 200k New Testaments to Olympic attendees and participants.

Weeks before the Paris Olympic Games, the French Bible Society prepared to hand out 140,000 copies of the New Testament in French and another 60,000 in English.

Special Edition

The French Bible Society created a special edition of the New Testament to be distributed during the Olympics. The edition features testimonies from Christian athletes, including French handball champion Joël Abati and Australian high jumper Nicola Olyslagers.

The French Bible Society has collaborated with various Christian sporting ministries to deliver the New Testament.

Numbers Attending

Over 11 million visitors are expected to descend on Paris in the coming weeks for the Games. The New Testament copies will be distributed during the Olympics and Paralympics, which end on Sept. 8. They will be given to attendees and participants.

The French Bible Society initially planned to distribute 100,000 French and 30,000 English New Testaments. However, due to overwhelming demand, it had to increase the print run.

Reason

These accounts (athlete’s testimonies) serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact the Bible continues to have in our contemporary world [1].

said Jonathan Boulet, General Secretary of the French Bible Society.
