The regular season of high school basketball just finished up last week, and now it is districts starting this week. Both the Thayer Bobcats and Alton Comets boys basketball teams are in Class 3 District 10 this year. Here’s a look into the top four teams in the district.

Thayer

Thayer is coming in as the number one seed with a  18-8 record. The team has had a challenging schedule this year participating in the Kevin Brown Tournament of Championship, the AllState Sugar Bowl Classic, and the Liberator Tournament among other tournaments and teams. All their losses come from the tournaments of which they only lost by an average of 6.5 points. Thayer, after finishing third in the state last year, is ready to come back and win the championship this year.

Liberty

The Liberty Eagles with a record of 15-8 come in as the number two seed. The team has gone up against Norwood, Cabool, Chadwick, and Licking. Only one of their losses come from a team in district 2, with that team being Thayer.

Licking

The Licking Wildcats (19-5) are the number three seed in district 2. They’ve had a very good season, with only five losses. They have shown that when under pressure in overtime, they can overcome it and get the win. Their matchup against the Alton Comets in the district quarterfinals will be a fun one to watch, as Alton lost to Licking in overtime 70-56.

Willow Springs

The number four seed in the district is the Willow Spring Bears (12-14). Although the record is not the best, the Bears have competed in the Strafford Invitational Tournament, the Mansfield Invitational tournament, the Blue and Gold Tournament. and the Family Pharmacy Panther Classic. If the Bears advance, they will have tough games to play since some of their losses come from other district 2 teams.

All the games will be at the Houston High School with the championship being February 24, 2024, at 3:00 pm. [1]
