Thayer, Mo. –The Thayer Bobcats went up against the Izard County Cougars at the Thayer High School on December 18, 2023. The Bobcats junior varsity girls, junior varsity boys, and the varsity boys won each of their games.
The Girls
The junior varsity Lady Bobcats started off the night. The girls manged to keep the lead throughout the entire game. At halftime, they were leading 26-19.
Good Performance
Riley Pierce (#2 for Bobcats) had multiple steals for her team as well as a three-pointer. Ally Kerley (#4 for Bobcats) also got a three-pointer. The final score was 57-27, with the Bobcats taking home the win.
JV Boys
For the junior varsity boys, the game was much closer. Neither team had much of a lead over the other. At halftime, Thayer was leading by six points.
The Last Minute
During the last couple minutes of the game, both teams were trying to get the lead and maintain the lead while running down the clock. In the end, the Bobcats prevailed and won the game 31-29.
Varsity
Aidan Burns (#12 for Bobcats) put the first points on the board with a three-pointer. The Bobcats continued to score with both lay-ups and three-pointers in the first quarter. At the end of the quarter, Thayer was leading 21-11. Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) and Rowan Spencer (#2 for Bobcats), also made some three-pointers for their team. At halftime, Thayer was leading 45-25.
Second Half
During the second half, although Thayer was getting tired, they still kept the lead. With around four minutes left in the third quarter, Devin Harrington made a slam dunk over one of the opponents.
More Dunks
Later in the fourth quarter, Aidan Burns did a quick pass to Harrington who made his second slam dunk of the game. With about 20 seconds left in the game, Burns stole the ball from the Cougars, dribbled down the court, and dunked the ball. The final score was 70-53, with Thayer taking the win.
