St. Joseph, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs have signed a three-year deal with Missouri Western State University. The Chiefs will hold training camp there once again. Missouri Western is improving the seating and housing for the Chiefs and fans. This will mark the eleventh year the Chiefs have held training camp at Missouri Western. They first started holding training camp at the university in 2010. Dates and additional updates for the Chiefs 2020 training camp will be on the Chiefs website and will be announced around mid-June.
Deal
The Chiefs signed a three-year deal to hold their training camp at Missouri Western State University for 2020 training camp. This deal will go through the 2022 season. The deal also includes an option to extend the partnership an additional two years after 2022.
President Mark Donovan of the Chiefs said, “We are thrilled to announce that we will return to Missouri Western State University and the St. Joseph community this summer, and that we will remain there for the foreseeable future.” He continued to say, “Our team researched and reviewed a number of viable options over the past six months. Through those meetings and discussions, we unanimously decided to return to St. Joseph. I want to thank President Matt Wilson and Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Josh Looney for their leadership throughout this process and we look forward to starting our 2020 season at Missouri Western again this summer.” [1]
Updates
There are some updates Missouri Western is making to help the fans, players, and their own students. The university will be developing a new seating area for the fans on the north end of the practicing fields. They are also working on renovating Scanlon Hall which houses Chiefs players, coaches, and staff. These renovations are already happening and are being completed with the help of the city of St. Joseph and Buchanan County. President Matt Wilson of Missouri Western State University said, “Missouri Western is elated to welcome the champions back home to our campus. Working together with the Chiefs over the past decade has clearly been beneficial for the club, the university, our community partners and the state of Missouri.” [2]
