Kansas City Chiefs Experience First loss of the Year to Pittsburgh Steelers

The second week has come around in the pre-season for both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Both teams also won their last pre-season games against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Chiefs went up against the Steelers at Heinz Field August 17, 2019. Although the Chiefs did play well, it wasn’t enough to beat the Steelers, who won the game 17-7.

Not a Good Start

The game was supposed to start at 7:30 Eastern Time but got delayed because of the weather. The game started at 8:30 Eastern Time instead.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes started this game as he did against the Bengals. He completed 2 of 5, threw for 11 yards, and had a rush for 8 yards. Chad Henne, the next QB, finished 7 of 14, threw for 96 yards, and had two rushes for 3 yards, and had the only touchdown the Chiefs made. Kyle Shurmur completed 4 of 9, completed 29 yards and had one rush for 2 yards. Chase Litton, who finished the game as Chiefs QB, finished 9 of 15, threw for 87 yards, and had one rush for 7 yards.

The QB for the Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger, did not play in this game. The other QB’s for the Steelers did, however. Devlin Hodges completed 2 of 4, threw for 38 yards, and completed their only touchdown pass. Joshua Dobbs finished 6 of 11, threw for 95 yards and had one interception. Mason Rudolph completed 10 of 15 and threw for 77 yards.

Another Game

There were no points in the first quarter, just a lot of switching the ball back and forth. The Steelers got a touchdown, by Jaylen Samuels for a 14-yard run, in the second quarter and made the field goal. With 1:11 left on the clock for the second quarter, Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne threw a pass to rookie Mecole Hardman for a 17-yard run to the end zone. The Chiefs also made the field goal. The score was 7-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, no points were made, and it consisted of switching the ball to the other team and back. The fourth quarter the Steelers made a touchdown, but then it was decided not to be a touchdown. But they did get three points. With 4:22 left on the clock for the game the Steelers made a touchdown and also made the field goal, winning the game.

The next game is August 24, 2019, at 7:00 PM Central Time. The Chiefs will host it at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri against the San Fransisco 49ers. This will be the second to last game the Chiefs play in before the pre-season ends.
