The Alton Comets basketball team went up against the Couch Indians on January 9, 2023, at the Alton High School. The Comets won 75-70.
First Half
The Comets got an early start in the game. Kayden Willard and Marcus Cockrum had several three-pointers in the half. Right as the first quarter was ending, a Couch Indian made a three-pointer from twenty-five feet away. At the half, the game was tied 41-41.
Third Quarter
One minute into the third quarter, the Indians got the lead for the first time in the game. Dillon Weyland hit a three-pointer and got fouled on the play to make two free throws. With those shots, the score was 46-45, with Couch in the lead. The score at the end of the third quarter was 60-55, with Couch leading.
A Close Game
In the fourth quarter, the Indians were leading by as much as eight points. Both Weyland and Cockrum scored three-pointers in the fourth quarter. With :30 left in the ball game, the Comets were up by one point. With 11 seconds left, an Indian player fouled a Comet. The score was 73-70. On the free throw rebound, Couch rebounded the ball, but slipped and dropped it. Weyland recovered it, and went for the lay-up. The final score was 75-70, with Alton winning.
