Alton, Mo. – Alton, Missouri, high school’s homecoming took place on Saturday, January 4, 2025. The Alton Comets junior varsity and varsity boys basketball teams played against the Summersville Wildcats. Both the JV and varsity Alton Comets teams won their games. Senior, Alee Willard was crowned the 2025 Homecoming Queen.
JV
The junior varsity game began at 1:30 pm. The game was relatively close to begin with, but the Comets began drawing away. At halftime, the score was 37-20 with the Comets in the lead. The Wildcats tried to make a comeback in the third quarter getting within five points. The Comets quickly shut the Wildcats out in the fourth quarter, closing the game 67-48.
Homecoming
The homecoming ceremony took place between the two games. The flower girl was Brooklyn Warren and the crown bearer was Landree Madden. The senior candidates were Jaylee Reese escorted by Kagen Hollis; Katie Smith escorted by Rylee Barton; Alayna Warren escorted by Kendrik Sechrest; and Alee Willard escorted by Cole Trantham. The 2025 Alton High School Homecoming Queen is Alee Willard.
Varsity
The varsity match-up was highly contested. During the beginning, the Comets did well stealing the ball. At the end of the first quarter, Alton was up by two points, 16-14. Not a lot of points were scored in the second quarter. One of Summersville’s players shot a three-pointer, to make the score 23-19, with Alton in the lead. The score at halftime was 28-22 with Alton still leading.
Second Half
The game continued to be very close in the second half with Summersville taking the leads multiple times. Two Summersville players had back-to-back three-pointers, getting them the lead. At the end of the third quarter, Alton still managed to hold the lead 41-38. In the final quarter, the Wildcats made several three-pointers which greatly aided them.
A Very Close Game
Kayden Willard (#1 for Alton) made several key steals and points in the final seconds of the game. As the game was close to ending, the score was tied twice. At one point, it looked as if it would be a last-minute win or lose scenario, but Summersville made technical fouls on two of the Comet players, giving them four free points (not all of them were made though). The final score was 62-57 with Alton taking home the win.
