The Alton Comets and Koshkonong Blue Jays boys and girls varsity basketball teams went up against each other at the Alton High School in Alton, Missouri, on Friday, February 17, 2023. The Lady Comets won 79-8, and the Comets won 87-45.
Lady Comets
At halftime, the Comets were leading 43-5. The team kept up the lead for the rest of the game. Evin Montgomery and Callie Steele for the Comets scored the most points with 20 and 12, respectively. [1] The final score was 79-8.
Comets
The boys’ teams were not to be out shown by the lady teams; they came on the court ready to conquer. Both teams started out strong, with the first quarter ending 16-13 with the Comets in the lead. At halftime, the Comets were still in the lead 41-21.
Several Comet players had good steals, rebounds, and layups throughout the game. Not to be outdone, the Blue Jays had multiple good steals and scores as well. For the rest of the game, the Comets kept up the lead with the game ending 87-45.
Rylan Steele and Marcus Cockrum scored the most points for the Comets at 25 points and 20 points, respectively. [2]
Playoffs
The Lady Comets and Comets will be heading off to the playoffs next week. The Lady Comets will face off against the East Carter Redbirds at the Van Buren High School on February 23rd at 7:30 pm. The Comets will go up against the Seymour Tigers at the Houston High School on February 20th at 8:00 pm. [3]
