Alton, Mo. – On February 8, 2019, the Alton Comets put up a fight against visiting Van Buren Bulldogs. The evening began with the Alton glee club singing the national anthem a Capella. This was a nice show of patriotism to start the busy night.
JV Girls
The first to play Friday night was the lady junior varsity. These girls came out ready to win. And that they did. Trouncing the Bulldogs with a score of 23-9, the comets left happily.
Varsity Girls
Next to take the court was the lady varsity comets. Far outnumbered, they put up a fight. However, missing many players was a leading factor in their loss with a score of 36-54.
Pep Band
During the half times of the varsity games, the Alton Pep Band entertained the crowd while the Comet mascot danced around.
Junior Varsity Boys
Right on the heels of the lady comets were the junior varsity men. Like the JV girls, they only played one-half of a game. Nonetheless, the Comets lost to the Bulldogs 30-34.
Varsity Men
To cap off the evening was the varsity comets playing their counterpart bulldogs. This game began slow, and a loss was anticipated for anyone leaving at the half. However, the Comet team returned from halftime on fire! Split second throwing, interspersed with interceptions on their opponent and much scoring on their side brought the third quarter to a breathtaking finish. The stands rocked with cheers for each team. The fourth quarter picked right up again. Down to the last couple of minutes, the win could go either way. It was comparable to an NBA game. Fun to watch! Sadly, the Alton Comets did face a loss to the Van Buren Bulldogs. The end score was 57-62. In spite of the score, the crowd knew the Comets had indeed performed their best.
