Alton, Mo. –The Lady Alton Comets basketball team took on the Licking Wildcats on December 12, 2024, at the Alton High School. The game was very close but the Wildcats came up on top with a 45-43 win.
First Half
Although Licking won the tip-off, Alton put the first points up on the board with a three-pointer from Miley Haney (#14). Both teams were evenly matched. At the end of the first quarter, the Comets were leading 14-9. Keely Gorman (#1 for Licking) and Miley Haney got three-pointers for their team in the second quarter. The score at halftime was 23-18 with Alton in the lead.
A Close Game
Both teams continued to evenly matched in the second half, but as the game wore on, the Wildcats began to close the gap. The score at the end of the third quarter was 30-27, with Alton still in the lead. In the final quarter, both teams had multiple turnovers, but not necessarily ending in points. In the final minute or two of the game, Licking took the lead and managed to hold it till the end of the game. The final score was 45-43 with Licking taking the win.
