President Donald Trump said he would rather have the NFL not open than to have the players kneel during the National Anthem. During an interview with a radio show, President Trump said that he would be happy if the NFL opened only if the players stood strongly during “The Star-Spangled Banner.” This interview happened on Clay Travis’s Fox Sports radio show. The interview took place on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

President Donald Trump said, “You have to stand for your flag, and you have to respect your flag and your country.” [1] President Trump also commented that he had not spoken to the NFL team owners, but that they knew his feelings very well. He also said, “If they don’t stand for the flag and stand strongly I’d be happier if they didn’t open.” [2]
NFL Opens Season
President Trump said that the NFL had been working with the government to have their season open up safely during the coronavirus. President Donald Trump said that these players are making millions every year and if they were not in the league, they would still be playing it with their friends on the weekends. The President said that the players have to respect their country.
