The Thayer Bobcats boys’ and girls’ basketball teams took on the Liberty Eagles in an SCA matchup on February 13, 2024, at the Thayer High School. Despite the flu going around in the school, both Thayer teams took the wins. The Lady Bobcats took the win 69-47, and the Bobcats took the win 71-43.
Girls
In the first half, the Bobcats took an early lead and never looked back. Joslyn Tucker had two three-pointers in the second quarter. At halftime, Thayer was leading 34-14. With 2:49 left in the game, Liberty hit their five team fouls, letting Thayer get a further lead every time they were fouled. The final score was 69-47, with Thayer taking the win.
Boys
The boys took the court next. Easton Pitts (#1 for Bobcats) got the first points of the game with a steal and lay-up. Although the Eagles tried to slow down the tempo of the game, the Bobcats kept it going, scoring almost every time they had the ball. Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) got a three-pointer late in the first quarter. The score at the end of the first quarter was 17-9, with Thayer in the lead.
Second Quarter
The Bobcats continued to lead in the second quarter. Mark Spencer (#5 for Bobcats) got another three-pointer for Thayer, making the score 23-9. Several steals were made by Thayer in the quarter. The score at halftime was 35-19, with Thayer still in the lead.
A Lengthening Lead
The Bobcats continued to score and leave the Eagles behind. Easton Pitts hit three three-pointers in the late third quarter. During the final quarter, the Eagles had several back-to-back points, but the Bobcats canceled those out with points of their own. The Bobcats took the win 71-43.
Next Game
Both the Lady Bobcats and Bobcats next game, and final regular season game, will be on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at Thayer against the Cabool Bulldogs. Senior recognition will be at 5:45 pm and the girls will tip off at 6:00 pm.
