On Thursday, December 7, 2023, the Thayer Bobcats boys basketball team went up against the Batesville Pioneers in the Mark Martin/Lyon College Tournament semifinals. Thayer won 54-30 over Batesville.
First Half
In the first quarter, the Bobcats had trouble getting the ball in the basket. Batesville was leading 10-5 at the end of the first quarter. During the second quarter, the Bobcats started warming up. Mark Spencer (#5 for Bobcats) seemed to get the team going in the second quarter, making all of his seven points during that time.
During one of the plays, Devin Harrington (#3 for Bobcats) stole the ball from a Pioneer and threw it to Mark Spencer. Spencer went up for the lay-up but was fouled. During his one shot, he missed it, rebounded his ball, then was fouled again. Spencer then made one of two of the free throw shots. The score at halftime was 20-17, with the Bobcats leading.
Second Half
Early on in the third quarter, Harrington made a dunk to get the Bobcats some more points. With :13 left in the third quarter, Thayer got their first three-pointer from Rowan Spencer (#2 for Bobcats). The score at the end of the third quarter was 36-21, with Thayer still in the lead. During the last thirty seconds of the game, Rowan Spencer had two back-to-back steals. The final score was 54-30, with Thayer moving on to the championship game Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 8:00 pm approximately. [1]
