Rain on glass.

Alton, Mo. – Hurricane Helene tore through the Appalachian Mountains, leaving behind mud and destruction. Disaster crews are working endlessly to remove fallen trees and rubble. As roads or paths open, people are in dire need of basic supplies. How can you help? You cannot always trust online sites to be legitimate.

Keith Elliott devised a plan to provide relief items to those in the disaster areas. You can donate locally.

What To Donate

The residents of those hurricane areas need almost everything. Some necessary items include soaps, brooms, buckets, and wheelbarrows. Food-related items include paper products like plates, napkins, silverware, towels, and toilet paper. New clothes and hygiene items like toothpaste and body wash would be nice. One way to think about it is this: what would I want most after a week in the same clothes with no dishes or cleaning supplies?

If you prefer a financial donation, please make a check out to the Alton Ministerial Alliance.

He is also seeking flatbed drivers and trailers. He has been given hay to take to livestock in the damaged areas, but he has no means of getting it there. If you could help, please contact Elliott at 1-573-300-2104.

Where Can I donate?

Keith Elliott has designated the Alton Assembly of God and the Thayer First Baptist Church as drop-off locations. Winona, Birch Tree, and Doniphan also have drop-off locations. The phone number for the Thayer First Baptist Church is 417-264-3403.

When Can I Donate?

The Alton Assembly of God will open its doors on Tuesday and Thursday, October 8 and 10th, between 4 and 6 p.m. and again on Saturday morning. On Saturday, Elliott will come by and pick up the donated items. He will wrap them in plastic and load them into a truck. By Monday, he’ll be leading a team to the disaster areas. If you need to drop off items in Alton at a different time, please call 417-778-6474.
