If you are out and about Thursday, do not think you missed an update in the weather report. MODOT (Missouri Department of Transportation) is planning a practice day for winter weather. They will have plows out running routes as they train new drivers.

Why?

In preparation for winter, a winter operations drill by the Missouri Department of Transportation will occur on Thursday, Oct. 19. During the drill, motorists may see more MoDOT vehicles on state routes. It begins at 8 a.m., in rural areas, and at 9 a.m., in urban areas. As time permits, the exercise should be completed by 3 p.m. This day is more crucial than ever for driver training, as turnover rates are high, and many positions are still open.

Fake Snowstorm

The Missouri Department of Transportation has over 3,000 employees who clear roads and bridges when winter weather hits. An entire state-wide snowstorm will be simulated during the drill. Winter operations involving all department employees will be coordinated through the department’s emergency operations centers. Additionally, emergency communications systems will be tested.
