Missouri earthquake in Williamsville, Mo.

Alton, Mo. – The residents of Alton, Missouri, experienced a 4.0 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 9:15 pm. The epicenter was five miles from Williamsville, Missouri.

The Time It Occurred

The  earthquake was recorded at 8:53 pm by the United States Geological Survey. Alton residents on the other hand, felt the tremor around 9:15 pm.

3.7 Magnitude

The tremor was recorded at 4.0 magnitude. [1] The quake was felt for about five to ten seconds in Alton. The depth of the earthquake was 16.9 kilometers (10.5 miles) below the surface of the earth. [2]

Any Injuries?

No injuries have been reported at the posting of this article. Residents in Alton and in the surrounding areas heard picture frames jiggling on the wall along with other items.

Affected Areas

Poplar Bluff, Piedmont, Doniphan, and Dexter experienced light shaking from the earthquake. Some people as far away as in St. Louis, Springfield, and Kansas City, Missouri, along with Memphis, Tennessee, also felt the tremor. [3]
