Alton Finally Saw And Felt Rain: Answer To Prayers Of Many

Rain on glass.

Rain on glass.

Alton, Mo. – There has been a lot of heat this summer. There have been several days of heat advisories and heat warnings due to high temperatures and no rain forecast. The air conditioning runs continuously throughout the day and well into the night. There is little or no grass left on the ground, and gardens are almost extinct. Dirt and dust are everywhere. Meet people on the river if you want to meet people.

Saturday Evening

The weekend brought an end to that. While weathermen predicted rain, they did not guarantee it. Alton, however, did receive rain on Saturday night. In a welcome development, thunder and wind preceded the monsoonal downpours. A half-inch of rain fell in local areas. In contrast, residents of West Plains, slightly north of us, did not receive any of the much-needed rainfall.

Sunday Evening

There was a fresher scent in the air when I woke up on Sunday. Congregations praised God is their songs and prayers for the needed rain. Even so, Sunday afternoon was hot and muggy. Despite the dark clouds to the south, no rain fell until the evening. The rains in Alton were again preceded by thunder and lightening. Despite the quick downpour, the moisture lingered all night. For morning commuters, this meant fog. However, it provided the ground with a chance to absorb the water.

In spite of the upcoming heat wave, grass will turn green, garden plants will bloom, and trees will be less dusty. But we did receive some relief from the heat of summer.
