This past weekend brought in a rush of winter weather. Although it is January and colder temperatures are to be expected, the first blast of arctic air is shocking every year. Although most households did not see much ice, let alone snow, more is in the forecast for later this week. It is time now to prepare.
When Is It Coming?
Most forecasters predict that the snow will come late Thursday into all day Friday this week.
How Much Snow?
Missouri is to miss the ice storm this time. But snow could be heading our way. Snow is a big factor in our area. With no guide rails along the roads, it is easy to slide off. One also drives off when he cannot tell the road’s edge. Today, most forecasters call for 1-3 inches of snow in Alton. However, some predictors call for 7-8 inches in areas as close as Mommoth Spring, Ar. It would not take much for the moisture curve to turn up, and we Missourians could be hit by several inches of snow.
In other words, do not throw away those sleds yet.
Nonetheless, we probably will not know anything more definite until Thursday.
How To Prepare
With the ice storm, we got a taste of preparation, but our power did remain on. We need to prepare for snow and little or no vehicle travel. Stock up now on milk, bread, and eggs. Think about water and how much you will need. Schools will probably close. Sticking to essentials will help you and your family make it through storms. Temperatures are not supposed to be so drastically cold following the snowstorm. Therefore, the snow will melt, and roads will reopen. We wait it out.
Until then, look for snowmen.
