Massive Flooding Occurs Throughout Oregon County

Alton, Mo. – Alton, Missouri, and the surrounding areas had rain from Wednesday, April 2, 2025, through early Sunday, April 6, 2025. The result of the continuous rain was widespread flooding all across Oregon and Howell County as well as other states.

Bodies of Water

The multiple accesses on the Eleven Point River were flooded throughout the rainy days. Highway 19 going past the Greer Recreation Area was closed Saturday night due to flooding on the road. At Riverton, the parking lot was completely under water. The Highway 142 access was closed due to the river coming above the bridge.

The ravine at Grand Gulf in Thayer was filled with water, with the lookout, being 130 feet above the ground, being underwater. The dam at Mammoth Spring State Park was almost level with the river and the lake portion.

Destruction

Friday evening, multiple stores in the Alton area had flooding. Harps was closed on Saturday to recover from the flooding. The Alton Bank parking lot was flooded as well as the old Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store and Josh’s ATV Repair.

Right at the Arkansas/Missouri border in Mammoth Spring, a train collapsed on a bridge due to the floodwaters. In West Plains, large sections of the town were flooded.

Rain Amount

Meteorologists were calling for 8-10 inches in the Oregon County area. Some people had 8 1/4 inches of rain throughout those couple days.
