Punxsutawney Phil Turns Out To Be Right; Alton, MO Gets More Snow

Alton, Mo. – Punxsutawney Phil turns out correct on his prediction of six more weeks of winter. Alton, Missouri, once again got some snow and freezing rain on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

How Much

Alton got about a covering to a 1/4 of an inch of snow. While that may not seem like a lot, more snow and wintry weather advisories are out for this week and the next.

More Wintry Weather?

Among the weather predictions, most, if not all, are calling for at least a little bit of snow and freezing rain this week. The average high temperature for this week according to NOAA is 29°F and the low being 17°F. NOAA is also calling for freezing rain every day until Thursday, February 11. [1]

A different weather source is Accuweather. Their highs are an average of 32°F and the lows are 20°F. Accuweather is also calling for freezing rain with a little bit of snow until Thursday, February 11. [2]

Cancellations

Most of the local schools, excluding the Alton Elementary and High School, canceled school for February 8, 2021. Some sporting events are also canceled for today including, the Alton Lady Comets versus the Thayer Lady Bobcats, the Koshkonong basketball games, and all of the West Plains High School sporting events. The Thayer First Baptist Church Celebrate Recovery meeting tonight has also been canceled. [3]

Make sure you have your winter boots, hats, mittens, and coats near at hand for the next couple of weeks.
