Spring officially began on March 20. Since that date, Alton, Missouri has experienced a variety of weather. From warm temperatures reaching 80 degrees to snow and freezing temps, residents are keeping warm and cooler jackets at hand for a moment’s notice.
When?
Since the beginning of spring, Alton has experienced its average amount of storms. Spring brings hail and heavy rain and residents know to be prepared. With the rains comes grass and flowers, trees blooming, and bugs.
Last Week
Last week residents faced warm temperatures. Many people wore shorts outside. Sunshine helped the grass grow and flowers bloom. Meanwhile, local residents rushed through mowing yards as storm clouds approached. By Tuesday evening, snow was falling- rapidly! Fortunately, the ground was warm so the precipitation did not stack up. However, the thermometer dropped by early evening. A hard frost came. Those who planned ahead covered the outside tender plants. Two nights below freezing was hard on outside fruit trees and flowers.
This Week
This week, forecasters say we are in for another round of storms [1]. Temperatures will again reach almost 80 before mixing with colder air from the West. Cold and warm air will mix with a potential for strong storms. Accuweather states we are below average for the number of tornadoes this year. But there is time for that to change.
