Whether you are planning on traveling on I-80 in the next couple of days or you just like to keep up on the weather, Truckee, California, (with the famous Donner Pass) has a winter storm warning out until Thursday morning. The expected accumulation of snow is 6-12 inches.
Where And When
The winter storm warning is for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area which includes the cities of South Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Stateline, and Incline Village. The warning is from 1:00 pm Wednesday, December 15, 2021, to 10:00 am Thursday, December 16, 2021.
Winter Storm
During the day of December 15th, new snow accumulation of 1-3 inches. During the night, they are expecting 4-8 inches of snow. A total of 6-12 inches of snow is expected per National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). For areas higher than 7,000 feet, a total accumulation of 10-20 inches is expected.
Avalanche Warning
Drivers also need to be aware of avalanche warnings. This warning is until Wednesday, December 15th, at 7:00 am. Travel near, in, or below avalanche terrain should be avoided.
How To Prepare
First of all, try to avoid traveling, if possible. If you do drive somewhere, drive slowly and cautiously and expect delays. Be prepared by packing an emergency kit with extra food, water, and clothing. Low visibility is likely along with road closures.
